Today, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Ted Allen represented the Lord-Lieutenant at the cutting of the Holy Thorn at St John’s Church in Glastonbury. The event hosted by the Fr. Kieron Rowley saw all the pupils from St John’s Primary School in the churchyard during which they sang the Holy Thorn song with great enthusiasm, then two pupils cut a sprig that was carried into the Church and a short service took place, followed by a tour of the school. A sprig has been cut from Glastonbury Holy Thorn bushes since the days of King Charles II and the cutting today will be forwarded with an accompanying letter to the Palace, as per the normal custom. King Charles III has already indicated the sprig will adorn his office desk.
