Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff CBE DL was delighted to represent the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset at the ‘Wings Parade’ of 846 NAS at RNAS YEOVILTON. The squadron represents one of the two primary Westland Merlin HC4 Squadrons that constitute the Royal Navy Commando Helicopter Force.(CHF). It was great to meet members of the many families who attended this milestone moment in the flying careers of the aircrews – RN and RM – receiving their wings and operational certificates from my friend Admiral Sir Keith Blount who is still serving as NATO Deputy Supreme Commander Europe. I was also very privileged and pleased to present some Service Medals and a Jt Commander’s Commendation. This poignant and well run event was rounded-off with a flying display. In all, a wonderful and memorable occasion for everyone who attended and the CO of RNAS YEOVILTON and CO 846 NAS both made a point of emphasising that they value their county affiliation to us and are keen to retain close links with the Lieutenancy adding that we are always welcome at their events.
